Thermo Auricular Therapy is also known as Hopi Candling -its origins seem to derive from Native American tribes who performed similar treatments for medical purposes. A Hopi candle is actually a cotton tube which is impregnated with beeswax, honey and therapeutic oils including St Johns Wort, sage and camomile. The tube is placed into the outer ear canal and is lit, thus drawing out impurities, relieving sinus problems and helping hearing problems caused by raised sinus pressure or wax build up. The treatment works upon the 'chimney principle' gently clearing impurities by lifting them to the surface, it also is believed to additionally act upon an energetic (auric) clearing basis. The session usually lasts for approximately 40 minutes - this includes candles used in each ear, followed by a gentle facial/ neck massage focusing upon the acupressure points and sinus areas.
This is a gentle treatment, but is contra-indicated for those with ear inflammation or infection, ear surgery, grommets, or perforated ear drums. It is suitable for those experiencing sinus problems, colds, stress, excess ear wax, and headaches.
