Sports/ Remedial Massage is a technique that targets the deeper layers of muscle, tendons and fascia. The treatment usually lasts for 1 hour, so as to allow enough time to reverse the chronic/ acute muscle tension and associated pain or discomfort. If the muscle experiences prolonged tension, either through emotional stress, directly through repetitive strain, or via sports-related issues, the oxygen and nutrient supply becomes restricted. This in turn can lead to inflammation, pain, restricted movement, and toxin build up within the muscle. Through deep tissue/ release techniques it is possible to reverse this process, relieve pain, and increase muscle range and mobility towards normal limits. It is important to note that there may be some soreness during and possibly following the massage as the body repairs itself. However there is usually a significant improvement in symptoms often immediately, but certainly within 48 hours of treatment.
This treatment is beneficial for anyone who has ongoing high stress levels and carries tension in the muscles. It is also particularly suitable for those people who sit or stand for long periods, thus compromising healthy posture, in addition to anyone using repetitive movements in their daily life which can cause specific areas of tension in the body. For example, tennis elbow, repetitive strain injury, back pain, shoulder/ neck tightness and restricted movement.
Sports enthusiasts will benefit from this treatment as it improves flexibility and movement of joints, improves circulation, speeds up healing of stressed or injured muscles, and can prevent future muscle or tendon injuires. Regular treatments can help maintain balance to the musculoskeletal system and reduce stress to the body generally, thus maximising perfomance during sport participation.
