Reiki originated in Japan, and the word itself can be translated into 'universal life energy'. At its core is the belief that all illness is caused by a disruption to the energy field which runs through and surrounds the body. When this energy is vibrant and healthy, then well-being correlates accordingly. However when there are depleted areas, often as a result of the stresses and challenges of daily life, then ill health can result.
During a reiki session the therapist gently places their hands in sequence on the main chakra/ energy centres of the body to rebalance and restore the auric field focusing upon each aspect according to any imbalances found. The aim is to clear any energy blocks or depleted areas of energetic flow and thus to regain equilibrium within the body. Reiki generally leaves the recipient feeling deeply relaxed, but may sometimes stir up emotional issues as it is on this level that it is most effective. A reiki session is carried out with the client fully clothed, lasts for approximately 1 hour, and it is a gentle and non-intrusive therapy and is suitable for most people.
