Reflexology

Reflexology is beleived to originate from ancient Egyptian practices, and has since evolved into the more structured treatment that is practiced today. It is based on the principle that each system of the body has a corresponding point on the foot/ ankle area which is connected by an energetic pathway, in a similar manner to acupressure. If there is an underlying problem in a specific area of the body, for example the stomach, this will often be felt in the corresponding area relating this on the foot. Each part of the foot and ankle area is worked by gently pressing or massaging each zone as relevant. Any imbalance can be felt directly by the therapist, or by discomfort felt by the client whilst working on this area. The therapist can release energy blocks, release tension, and disperse accumulations of uric acid and calcium build up within the affected areas, thus helping restore balance and vitality.

This treatment lasts for approximately 1 hour duration.  It is performed fully clothed except for removal of socks and footwear. Reflexology is suitable for most people, and is especially useful for those with mobility restrictions as it can be done seated in a chair if required. A single session is often found to be beneficial as a relaxing treatment, but best results are found through regular (1 - 4 weekly) treatments as a preventative health measure.
